This map from Meyers Gazetteer shows the place names that Paul Baumgardt and Eva Fliss would have been familiar with at the time they grew up and when they left Prussia in 1872. From c. 1772 to 1918 the area was under Prussian rule and the village was known by its German name GOLZAU. Likewise, Parchowo is the historical and modern Polish name of the village which was called PARCHAU during the German occupation. The vital records for our family were formed using these German spellings of places and registration districts.
Parchau is near the top right and Golzau is below to the left.

Our Home Village: Gołczewo, near Bytów in northern Poland.
In June 2019, Christina Morris and I (both great great granddaughters of Paul and Eva Baumgardt) visited Poland and Germany for a month of research. The highlight was wandering around the very rural and rustic home village of Gołczewo, in the heart of Kashubia. Then exploring St Nicholas church in nearby Parchowo where the family were baptised. It was special to meet up with family and friends that Pauline and Jim Morris and Arthur Bungard met on their trip to Poland thirty years ago in 1989.
The Diocesan Archives in Pelplin and State Archives in Gdańsk were worth visiting - even if no one spoke english.
We stayed at Zamek Zaborski owned by Stanley Frymark who was a fantastic guide and translator.
